NEW: To access information about All-State Orchestra, scroll down or click on one of the following options: • Audition dates, fees, and locations (1st and 2nd round) • Audition requirements (includes links to scales and etudes) Students in grades 9 - 12 whose directors are current members of LMEA are eligible to audition. A student auditioning for the All-State Orchrestra must be a member of the school's string music program. In a situation where there is no program in the school, the student must be certified by the eligible music teacher at the school or a private teacher who is an LMEA member. Home school students are not eligible for LMEA All-State events.
The All-State Orchestra is made up of approximately 100 members (strings, winds, and percussion). This ensemble generally performs the weekend before Thanksgiving during the annual LMEA conference.
Note: Wind players should follow the audition proceedures for All-State Band. The selection of orchestra winds is determined by a student's rank in the 2nd round audition.
AUDITION DATES, FEES, AND LOCATIONS:
Ordinarily one harp player and one piano player (as required by the All-State music) will be selected for membership in the All-State Orchestra, based on the district level audition. There is no state level audition for these students.
The district level audition includes scales (30% of score) and etudes (70% of score).
Wind and percussions players will be selected from students auditioning at the 2nd round All-State band auditions. A student's audition score and/or placement request (seniors only) will determine which ensemble he or she will be placed in. Wind and percussion players interested in membership in the All-State Orchestra should refer to the audition information for All-State Band.
String players - Click the appropriate link for Information pertaining to the required scales and prepared selections for string, piano, and harp players who wish to audition.
NOTE: The Orchestra Division Chair can elect to require orchestral excerpts from the upcoming All-State repertoire. If this decision is made, the information on obtaining the repertoire will be posted on the "LMEA website" by the last Saturday in August. Click on link in navagation bar at left.
Performance evaluation will be based on tone quality, intonation, note accuracy, rhythmic accuracy, bowing, musicality, and appropriateness of tempos (these will be indicated in the parts).
