Please
note that, although every effort has been made to ensure

ELIGIBILITY:
Students in grades 9 - 12 whose directors are current members of LMEA are eligible to audition. A student auditioning for the District Honor Band must be a member of the school's instrumental music program.

Fee: |
• $10.00 per audition • Students auditioning on more than one instrument must pay the fee for each instrument. • Fees should be paid to the student's school. A single school check, payable to L.M.E.A. District IX, must be mailed by the deadline to: Val Estoque, Slidell High School, #1 Tiger Dr., Slidell, LA 70458. Include a hard copy of the school's registration form. |

• Directors must email the registration form to Jessica Lizana at jessica.lizana@stpsb.org by the deadline to assure that your students are scheduled. |

Registration Deadline: |
• Registration form must be emailed and check must be postmarked by 11/9/12. • Be aware that schools will be assessed a $50.00 late fee if this deadline is not met. Students who are registered late will be assigned whatever times are still available. |

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
District Honor Band auditions include scales, a prepared etude, and sight reading as described below.
Percussion: Students are now required to demonstrate a proficiency on all percussion instruments - mallet, snare, and timpani. Click on link under "Prepared Etudes" for more information. Scale sheets for "mallet percussion" are found under "Scales."

Scales - Click
here for a chart listing the octave, tempo, and articulation requirements for ALL instruments. With
the exception of mallet percussion, students are responsible for preparing all
major
scales through four sharps and four flats as well as
the chromatic scale the full range of their
instrument. Specific scale requirements for mallets
can be found by clicking "All Percussion" under Prepared
Etudes below.

Sight
Reading - All
students will be required to sight read a short piece.
They are encouraged to practice sight reading
in simple, compound, and mixed meters, in a variety
of keys, and be comfortable with chromatics, accidentals,
and a variety of rhythms (including
syncopation, triplets, dotted rhythms, and rests).
Note: All chair ties are broken by the sight-reading score.
