Please note that, although every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of information printed here, it is the student's responsibility to check with his/her director for any changes in audition requirements or schedules.
 

 

 ELIGIBILITY:

Students in grades 9 - 12 whose directors are current members of LMEA are eligible to audition. A student auditioning for the District Honor Band must be a member of the school's instrumental music program.  

 

 AUDITION DATES, FEES, AND LOCATIONS:

Southeastern La. University, Pottle Music Building
Band registration table is in the lobby.

Time:

Individual times, beginning at 12:30, will be assigned after registration deadline.

Fee: 

• $5.00 per audition

• Students auditioning on more than one instrument must pay the fee for each instrument.

• Fees should be paid to the student's school.  A single school check, payable to L.M.E.A. District IX, must be mailed by the deadline to: Dan Eitmann, Northshore High School, 100 Panther Dr., Slidell, LA  70461. 

Registration Form:

• Directors should send a copy of the registration form with the fees to Dan Eitmann.

• Directors must also email the registration form to Lee Hicks at ralph.hicks@stpsb.org by the deadline so that your students will be scheduled for audition times.

Deadline: 

November 16, 2007

Be aware that schools will be assessed a $50.00 late fee if this deadline is not met. Students who are registered late will be assigned whatever times are still available.

 AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

District Honor Band auditions include scales, a prepared etude, and sight reading as described below.

 

Percussion: These students are now required to demonstrate a proficiency on all percussion instruments - mallet, snare, and timpani. Click on link under "Prepared Etudes" for more information. Scale sheets for "mallet percussion" are found under "Scales."

 

Note: If you have difficulty opening any scale sheets or mallet exercises, you may need to update to a more current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader by clicking on Adobe link. If the notes do not print properly, you may not have the correct music font installed and will need to download Finale Notepad by clicking on the Finale link. Both downloads are free.

With the exception of melodic percussion, students are responsible for preparing all major scales through four (4) sharps and four (4) flats and the chromatic scale the full range of their instrument. Specific scale requirements for mallets can be found by clicking "Percussion" below.

circle07_red.gifPrepared Etudes - All instruments are required to perform one etude. Click on an instrument for the appropriate book and pages for each year of the four-year cycle.

circle07_red.gifSight Reading - All students will be required to sight read a short piece. They are encouraged to practice sight reading in simple, compound, and mixed meters, in a variety of keys, and be comfortable with chromatics, accidentals, and a variety of rhythms (including syncopation, triplets, dotted rhythms, and rests).

 

 AUDITION RESULTS:

Audition results will be posted as soon as available - usually the night of auditions. Click on "Audition Results" in the navagation bar on the left. 

  

 REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:

NOTE: The 2007/08 rehearsal and concert schedules are different as a result of Mardi Gras parade schedules.
