THE ENSEMBLES: There are six All-State ensembles that perform annually during the LMEA conference, traditionally held during the early part of the Thanksgiving week. Student membership in these ensembles numbers approximately as follows: Symphonic band - 60 Concert band - 80 Choir - 160 Women's Chorus - 60 Jazz Ensemble - 20 Orchestra -100
ELIGIBILITY: Students in grades 9 - 12 whose directors are current members of LMEA are eligible to audition for an All-State ensemble. Students must also be members of their school's music ensemble (band, choir, jazz band, or orchestra). In a situation where there is no ensemble program in the school, the student must be certified by the eligible music teacher at the school or an LMEA-member private teacher.
1st ROUND AUDITION INFORMATION: Each of the nine LMEA Districts holds a district level (1st round) audition during the first part of September to determine which students will qualify for the state level (2nd round) audition. Click on the calendar link in the navagation bar for the current year's date and location.
Jazz band: There is no first round audition for the jazz band. All students audition at 2nd round.
Orchestra: String players' auditions will be recorded. The CDs of those selected at the district level will be submitted to the state chairperson for further adjudication and selection to the All-State Orchestra.
2nd ROUND AUDITION INFORMATION: The 2nd round audition is always held on the second Saturday of October. 2nd round audition locations alternate between alternate between Lafayette High (odd-numbered years) and Pineville High (even-numbered years).
Band: If a student is selected for All-State, his/her 2nd round audition score will determine whether he/she will be placed in the Symphonic Band or the Concert Band.
Choir: There are different pieces for 1st and 2nd round choir auditions. 2nd round audition scores will determine whether sopranos/altos will be placed in the Mixed Choir or the Women's Chorus.
Orchestra: Wind and percussions players will be selected from students auditioning at 2nd round. If selected for All-state, a student's audition score and/or placement request (seniors only) will determine which ensemble he or she will be placed in.
Strings
- there is no 2nd round audition. Auditions for chair placement
will be held on the day of the first All-State rehearsal. Audiditon
music will be taken from the All-State music.
